🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1961, several witnesses in Akron, Ohio, reported seeing an unidentified object with a red-orange plate-like shape. The phenomenon occurred around 10:30 PM, and observers described an object that appeared twice the size of the moon. The object's unusual shape, with a "cut-off" top, caused confusion. The Air Force investigated and concluded it was the setting moon distorted by atmospheric refraction. Weather conditions and the moon's position explained the unusual appearance. Despite the official conclusion, witnesses insisted it was not a typical astronomical phenomenon.
