🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1961, a notable UFO sighting occurred in Kansas when both civilian and military witnesses reported a large green ball in the sky. The object was seen simultaneously by individuals separated by about 70 miles, suggesting it was at a high altitude. The object was descending as it disappeared and witnesses heard an explosion. This created confusion and mystery, as the description and duration of the event matched the characteristics of a bright meteor, known as a bolide. These meteors are rare and can be startling due to their intensity and sound.
Although initially considered a balloon or aircraft, the data did not allow a definitive evaluation. The combined ground and air observation, along with the testimony of an explosion, added credibility to the report. The lack of photographs and the unique nature of the event make it an intriguing case in UFO history. The coordination among witnesses and the detailed description of the object and its behavior make it a valuable document for researchers of the phenomenon.
