🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1961, a witness in Springfield, Massachusetts, reported a cylindrical object with a cone-like red tail. The sighting occurred around 23:30 and lasted 2 to 3 seconds. The object appeared directly overhead, moved silently eastward, and vanished instantly. Investigators considered the possibility of a fast meteor, as well as a B-52 landing in the area. However, the report concluded there was insufficient data for a definitive evaluation.
The report includes details about weather conditions, such as haze and smoke, which could have affected visibility. A B-52 was indeed landing in the area around that time, but the witness heard no sound, raising doubts about whether the object was an aircraft. The single visual observation and lack of noise led investigators to consider it likely an astronomical phenomenon. Despite the clues, the lack of conclusive evidence keeps this case in the category of insufficient for a definitive evaluation.
