🇺🇸 CIA
In October 1955, the CIA received a report about a sighting of aerial objects resembling the mysterious Project "Y". This project, developed by Avro Aircraft in Canada under contract with the US Air Force, involved a revolutionary design with a circular wing 30 feet in diameter. The report mentioned impressive speeds, a ceiling of 102,000 feet, and a range of 700 nautical miles. It highlighted that John Frost, the project's director, had obtained his idea from a German group after World War II, raising suspicions that the Soviet Union might have also accessed this information.
The report posed a contradiction: if the Soviets already had a working prototype, why continue investing in conventional aircraft? The US Air Force had been on alert since 1953 for any sign that the Soviets were working on a similar project, but no evidence had emerged until then. The simultaneous sighting of two objects in an unusual area suggested they might be in service, implying rapid Soviet development. To confirm, technical experts were to question the witness, as the available information was insufficient.
