🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1961, a civilian in San Angelo, Texas, observed a bright object moving in a straight line toward the north. The witness described it as very similar to the Echo 1 satellite, with a brightness comparable to the stars Arcturus or Polaris. The object appeared in the south, moved northward, and disappeared 45 degrees above the horizon without performing any maneuvers. No photos were taken and there were no other witnesses, complicating the identification.
The Goodfellow Air Force Base evaluated the case and concluded that there was insufficient data to determine the object's nature. Although a balloon or an unannounced satellite similar to Echo 1 were considered, there was no confirmation of launches in the area. The report notes that the witness was a reliable petroleum geologist, adding credibility to his testimony. Ultimately, the case remains unresolved, like many others from that era.
