🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1961, a witness in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, reported a red-orange object with a visible trail for 6 to 8 minutes. The object moved in a straight line at around 15 degrees elevation, which was unusual due to its duration. Although initially thought to be a meteor, investigators considered it more likely to be a reentering object, possibly related to a Gamma 4 rocket. The description of its trajectory and material shedding supported this theory, though other explanations were not ruled out.
The report lacks photographs or radar data and is based on a ground visual observation. Despite the lack of additional data, the witness's account highlighted features similar to a meteor, but with an abnormal duration. This led analysts to consider the possibility of a reentering space object, though no definitive conclusion was reached. The case was filed without a clear resolution, but with a plausible explanation based on the available data.
