In 1952, several French and African newspapers reported sightings of unidentified flying objects. One of the earliest cases occurred in Dakar, where a technician observed a flat, luminous object moving at high speed. Although some journalists attributed it to a meteor, others described details inconsistent with natural phenomena. In Algiers, the head of the weather bureau tried to explain the sightings as weather balloons, but witnesses insisted that wasn't the case.
The sightings weren't limited to Africa. In Corsica and southern France, people reported cylindrical and luminous objects emitting bright particles. Even in West Germany, an inventor claimed to have developed a "flying saucer" with an engine. These accounts, though unverified, show how the curiosity and mystery of UFOs were already present in the 1950s.
