In February 1961, a witness in Portland, Oregon, observed a round, white object the size of a grapefruit that appeared at about 45 degrees altitude and moved in a southeasterly direction. The object would rise and fall, alternating between bright and dim, until it finally vanished into what the witness described as "outer space."
