Summary

In February 1961, a witness in Portland, Oregon, observed a round, white object the size of a grapefruit that appeared at about 45 degrees altitude and moved in a southeasterly direction. The object would rise and fall, alternating between bright and dim, until it finally vanished into what the witness described as "outer space." The sighting lasted about 10 minutes, but no photos were taken and no additional data helped identify the object.

Investigators concluded that the information was insufficient to reach a valid evaluation. The exact position of the object at disappearance was unknown, and the witness did not explain how they determined it had gone into space. Although several possibilities were considered, such as balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena, none were confirmed. The case remains unresolved and continues to be one of those aerial mysteries that spark curiosity.
