In February 1961, the radar at Waverly Air Force Station in Iowa picked up an unidentified object for 10 minutes. The radar detected the object 40 miles away with a southwest heading, and it disappeared 30 miles away in a northeast direction. Although there were no unusual weather conditions, the station had previously experienced issues with multiple registrations on its Mark X radar system.
