🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1961, a pilot in Honolulu, Hawaii, reported an unusual aerial phenomenon that caught the attention of military authorities. A fine contrail was observed breaking into three parts and burning out, initially thought to be a satellite reentering the atmosphere. However, subsequent analysis suggested it might have been a meteor, as the behavior was typical of a daylight observation of a bolide. There were no records of satellite reentries on that date, supporting the theory that it was a natural astronomical event. Despite the apparent clarity of the event, official records classified it as "insufficient for evaluation," reflecting the ambiguity surrounding many sightings during that time.
