In March 1961, a witness in Dallas, Texas, reported an unidentified flying object that crossed the sky from east to west at an extremely high speed. The object was described as similar to a Greyhound bus about a mile away, traveling at around 1700 km/h, with no lights on but leaving a dusty trail behind. No sound or color was perceived. The witness noted that the object appeared at 85° from the east and disappeared at 230° from the north, at a low altitude above the horizon. Weather conditions were clear, dry, and cold.
Investigators concluded that the object's movement toward the southwest contradicted the trajectory of artificial satellites. Additionally, the description suggested the object might be entering Earth's atmosphere. Given the direction and observed characteristics, it was likely a meteor. Although other explanations like balloons or aircraft were ruled out, the phenomenon could not be definitively identified, highlighting the challenges in interpreting unusual aerial events.
