🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A very large object fell from the sky near Misawa Air Base in Japan on March 15, 1961. Three witnesses, including an airborne pilot, observed it. The pilot described an object with a fiery green tail that appeared behind him and moved in an arc from his right wing. Another witness, a mobile control officer, noted the object changed color from white to greenish-blue and then to orange as it fell. A third, a tower sergeant, couldn't distinguish the color but confirmed the object descended at a slight angle.
Military authorities reviewed the information and considered various explanations, such as balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena. However, no clear explanation was found. A Japanese rocket program was ruled out since no test had been conducted that day. The report was classified as "Insufficient data for evaluation," suggesting the phenomenon had no definitive explanation.
