🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1961, three military personnel in Guantanamo, Cuba, observed a bright yellow object trailing black smoke. The object descended for two minutes from about 30 degrees above the horizon, disappearing in the east. Initially thought to be an astronomical event, the object was later identified as a test of the Titan J-801 missile. The smoke quickly dissipated due to the wind, making it difficult to determine the object's exact nature.
The classified report, part of Project 10073, categorized the sighting as "another missile," ruling out other possibilities like balloons or aircraft. The responsible officer, Colonel W.J. Karp, deemed further investigation unnecessary due to lack of personnel and the clearly terrestrial nature of the event. Despite initial ambiguity, the object was confirmed as a missile test, closing the case without room for more mysterious interpretations.
