Summary

In April 1961, a crew of a U.S. Air Force KC-97 reported an unidentified object that appeared ahead and above their aircraft. The object split into two parts and began burning, causing some alarm. The sighting occurred at 13,000 feet near Goose Bay, Labrador. Although the duration of the event was not specified, available data suggested it could be a bolide, a type of meteorite that burns upon entering the atmosphere. The official evaluation considered it as such, ruling out other possibilities such as balloons or aircraft.

The report was transmitted to AFCIN-4E2, where it was recorded as part of Project 10073 records. Despite no photographs or radar use, the event description is clear. The crew could not identify the object, and the official report concluded it was a meteor, but the nature of the event remains intriguing for researchers of unexplained aerial phenomena.
