🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1961, an observer on land spotted a bright object 45 degrees above the horizon. The object was moving northeast at five degrees per minute before disappearing below the horizon. The sighting occurred in the Pacific Ocean at remote coordinates. Although it might initially seem unexplained, investigators consulted with space tracking and determined the object was the satellite Echo I. This case is an example of how space objects can be misinterpreted as UFOs.
The observation lasted eleven minutes and was recorded as a ground visual sighting. Despite no photos or radar being involved, the detailed description and precise location allowed for later identification. This type of record helps clarify many sightings that initially appear inexplicable.
