🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1961, a civilian in South Hadley Falls, Massachusetts, observed an object resembling a flattened balloon with a bright white front and reddish rear. The object appeared at an altitude of 80°-90°, disappeared at 40°-50°, and exhibited a weaving or rolling motion. The sighting lasted about 8 minutes, and the report concluded it was the satellite Echo I. This case was confirmed by NASA, making it a classic example of how space objects were often mistaken for unexplained phenomena during that era. Additionally, that same month, multiple other sightings were reported across the U.S. and other regions, including a case in Australia where a circular object with blue light was photographed without a clear explanation.
