🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A bright point of light was observed in the Atlantic on May 15, 1961, at 21:30 local time. The object, described as the size of the star Altair, was first seen at 60 degrees elevation, moving relative to the stars. Over time, it dimmed and disappeared at a lower elevation. The sighting lasted eight minutes, with no photographs or visible trails. Although the data was limited, investigators concluded it was likely a satellite. This report, classified under Project 100/3, shows how even in the 1960s, unidentified sightings generated interest and analysis by the military.
