🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1961, a witness in Bay Minette, Alabama, observed an oval object with metallic reflections moving rapidly across the sky. The object appeared like a satellite, tracing a 20-degree arc in 30 seconds before disappearing behind clouds. Although the witness identified it as a satellite, authorities could not confirm this hypothesis due to a lack of tracking data. The object's description and direct path without maneuvers made it an intriguing case for researchers at the time.
Brookley Air Force Base in Alabama recorded the incident as part of their investigations into unidentified objects. Despite contacting nearby units, such as Tyndall AFB in Florida, attempts to intercept the object were unsuccessful. The officer in charge, 2nd Lt William H. Stearley, considered the witness reliable and compared the object to known items like satellites and balloons. However, the case remained unresolved, ultimately classified as possibly a satellite.
