Summary

A round object the size of a baseball was observed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1961. Civilian and military witnesses reported seeing a white object moving extremely fast, so quickly that it appeared egg-shaped at times. The object appeared suddenly in the sky and followed a straight path toward the northeast, disappearing over the horizon. The observation lasted between 2 and 3 minutes, and no noise or trail was recorded. Due to its speed and lack of visible exhaust, investigators considered it could be a satellite, specifically ECHO I, which was in orbit at the time.

The reports agree that the object showed no characteristics of an aircraft or balloon. Despite radar attempts to identify it, no clear confirmation was achieved. The official report suggests the only plausible explanation is the presence of the ECHO I satellite, whose orbit crossed the area during that period. Although two brief testimonies were recorded, investigators concluded there was insufficient data to determine the object’s nature with certainty, but pointed toward a natural explanation related to satellites or astronomical phenomena.
