Summary

In June 1961, two observers in Champaign, Illinois, reported seeing eight bright, round objects arranged in a "V" formation moving from the southeast to the northwest. The first witness described them as roughly the size of a half-dollar and very luminous, while the second initially thought it was just a star. Both were lying on the roof of a house when they saw the objects for about 30 seconds. There were no reports of air traffic in the area, ruling out conventional aircraft.

The constellation Bootes was directly overhead at the time, with its brightest star, Arcturus, forming a triangle with others. Investigators concluded that the observers were likely looking at this constellation, and that moving clouds created the illusion of motion. Despite the lack of physical evidence and the ambiguity of the testimonies, the case was archived as an astronomical phenomenon explained by atmospheric conditions and visual perception.
