In June 1961, a woman in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, spotted a mysterious object during the early morning hours. The object, described as a white saucer the size of a coin, remained motionless in the sky at about 60 degrees elevation. The witness, who saw it from her window, claimed the object simply faded away like a dimming light. Although she initially thought it might be Venus, investigators considered other possibilities, such as a star or even a balloon.
The night's atmosphere included broken clouds and smoke, which could have altered the visual perception of the witness. Although the report suggested it might be the star Capella, there was no physical evidence or photographs to confirm this theory. The brief but clear observation adds another case to the mystery of unidentified flying objects in the 1960s.
