UFO seen as a "sky writer" in Metuchen

Summary

A 1961 account describes a bright object resembling a skywriting plane but with unusual features. The witness saw it from her porch at 2:30 p.m. on July 25. Initially, she thought it was a plane writing in the sky, but as it approached, she noticed it shone like the sun, with a golden hue and a fiery exhaust. It had no wings and its shape resembled a shark. The object moved in an arc across the sky for ten minutes, from north to south.

The U.S. Air Force recorded the sighting on an official form, though it concluded the data was insufficient for a clear evaluation. It suggested it might have been a high-flying jet with sun glare, but the object's description didn't match conventional aircraft.
