🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1961, a group of civilians in Gardnerville, Nevada, observed an object resembling a single-engine jet trailing fire and sparks. It was thought to be an aircraft flare, possibly an emergency situation. Witnesses described the object heading south near Lake Tahoe and remaining visible for about 1.5 minutes. Although no parachutes were seen, observers believed the crew might have abandoned the vehicle.
Air bases and authorities were notified, but no other sightings were confirmed. The report suggested the phenomenon could be an optical illusion caused by vehicle lights reflecting off clouds and weather inversion. Despite the lack of additional evidence, the report noted clear skies and high visibility, supporting the credibility of the observation.
