🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1961, a UFO sighting was recorded in the Atlantic near the coordinates 40.29N 36.28W. A witness observed a bright object with the size and brightness of a second magnitude star. The object passed overhead on a course of 130 degrees and disappeared over the horizon. The observation lasted 15 minutes and was classified as visual, with no radar confirmation or photographs. Although several explanations were considered, such as balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena, no definitive conclusion was reached. The lack of confirmation with space tracking added mystery to the sighting.
The report, under Project 10073, was transmitted by the Air Force and distributed to various military units. Although it was noted that the object had characteristics similar to satellites in orbit, there was no match with known records. The observation occurred under clear night conditions, increasing the credibility of the testimony. However, the absence of additional data prevented a conclusive evaluation. This case remains an example of an unexplained sighting, typical of the UFO files from that era.
