Summary

In July 1961, a civilian observer spotted an unusual object over the Atlantic. The report describes a round object the size of a basketball that appeared to be a rocket cone reentering the atmosphere. It emitted a blue-white light for 10 seconds, followed by a long trail of red and orange flames for 2 seconds before exploding. No sound was heard, and witnesses insisted it was not a common meteorite. The object followed a parabolic path, ending in an almost vertical descent. Despite some characteristics resembling a reentry, no launches were recorded on that date, leaving its nature uncertain.

The object's description and behavior did not match known objects such as balloons, aircraft, or meteors. The report tentatively classified it as a meteor due to the lack of reentry data, but witnesses insisted it was unusual. The sighting lasted about 15 seconds and was reported by an airline pilot, adding credibility to the account. Although no photos were taken and there was no radar confirmation, the case remains an unresolved mystery in the files of unexplained phenomena.
