🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A bright object was observed in the Pacific in 1961, initially classified as an unknown aerial phenomenon. The report, dated July 6, describes a white object with the brightness of the star Vega, slowly moving across the sky. Although its speed ruled out a planet or star, it was not fast enough to be a meteor. The description matched the Echo I satellite, which was in orbit at the time. Calculations confirmed the satellite was in the area and followed the reported path.
The sighting was recorded by an officer on a ship traveling from Panama to Yokohama, and confirmed by radar. Despite the lack of photographs, the data matched the satellite, leading to the conclusion that it was not a UFO but a clear identification of a known space object. This case shows how, even in the 1960s, sightings could be resolved with scientific analysis and satellite data.
