In July 1961, a witness in Michigan observed an object that initially appeared like a basketball. About 45 minutes later, this object split into four smaller ones, about the size of baseballs, which maintained a close formation. The objects ranged in color from blue to red, moved very slowly, and fluctuated between high altitudes and low levels near the tree tops. Although no military or commercial flights were recorded in the area, the possibility of lights from a private helicopter was considered.
