🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1961, a woman in Newport News and Carrollton, Virginia, observed a white object moving slowly across the sky. She described it as a star that did not shine consistently and moved eastward. The object was seen for 12 to 15 minutes, and its movement was compared to high-altitude air currents. Although not officially confirmed, reports suggest it could have been a weather balloon. The lack of photos and the inability to contact some witnesses complicated the investigation.
The U.S. Air Force logged the sighting as part of a surveillance system for unidentified aerial phenomena. The possibility of a satellite was considered but not confirmed. A later call from a military officer partially corroborated the sighting, leading to the conclusion that further investigation was unnecessary. This case reflects how UFO reports were often archived without a clear resolution, but with an assessment based on available data.
