🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1961, a teenager in Flushing, New York, observed a bright object in the sky moving along a clear path. The young witness described it as a silvery object, as bright as Saturn, and watched it for 10 minutes through a telescope. The report includes details about the clear weather and the precise location of the observer, who initially thought it could be a rocket or satellite. NASA and the Air Force were involved in the investigation, but the case was resolved by identifying the object as the satellite Echo I, which was visible during its pass at that time.
The testimony, though initially confusing, was key to ruling out exotic explanations. The satellite Echo I was known for its ability to reflect signals, and its visibility from Earth was common during that period. The official report concluded there was no evidence of an unidentified phenomenon, but the teenager's account reflects the public curiosity and interest in UFOs during the 1960s.
