🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1961, a 14-year-old in Redondo Beach, California, observed a bright and shiny object in the sky. The object rose toward the southeast, reaching an estimated 45 degrees in about 7 minutes. The witness used a telescope, suggesting an interest in astronomy. Although the report mentions two sightings, there was not enough information to identify the object with certainty. The Air Force concluded that there were insufficient data for evaluation.
The officer in charge of the case, Captain W. G. Bass, recorded the incident as part of his duty report. Despite the clear description from the witness, including the exact time and direction of the object, its nature could not be determined. The case was filed as "insufficient for evaluation," a common outcome for similar reports at the time. This document reflects how UFO sightings were treated with some seriousness but also with a pragmatic approach that valued concrete evidence.
