🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1961, multiple witnesses reported an unusual aerial phenomenon along the U.S. East Coast. A glowing object, initially a small elongated orange light, rapidly expanded into a bright sphere that burst with intense orange light. The event lasted 5-7 seconds and was observed by sailors, officers, and civilians. Although some thought it might be a UFO, NASA confirmed it was an experimental rocket releasing sodium at over 100 miles altitude. The chemical material created visible light along the Atlantic coast and parts of the Midwest.
The phenomenon description included color changes, dramatic expansion, and a residual coal-like smell. Despite the unusual display, there were no audible sounds or explosions. Multiple witness reports aligned, leading to a quick NASA confirmation.
