Summary

In October 1961, a witness in Middle Village, New York, reported a luminous object moving rapidly from north to south along an almost horizontal trajectory. The observer compared it to a Fourth of July rocket, but without the usual sparkles, except at the end of its path where it left a short trail of sparks. Initially as bright as a star, the object faded with a light bulb-like color. Although considered a meteor, there was not enough data to confirm this definitively.
