🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In October 1961, a ship in the Pacific recorded the sighting of a bright object moving in a southeasterly direction. The object appeared at an elevation of 66 degrees, with the brightness of a second-magnitude star, and was visible for eleven minutes. Although both air and surface radar failed to detect it, multiple observers confirmed its presence. The captain was called and verified the sighting with a sextant. The object disappeared on the horizon, suggesting a satellite trajectory. Despite not being verified with space tracking data, there was no indication it was anything other than a satellite.
