🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In November 1961, a bright object was sighted over Lake Charles, Louisiana, with features resembling a bolide. Witnesses described a luminous object the size of an aircraft that exploded and continued its path until disintegration. It left a bright trail visible for about five seconds. Another observer reported a second white object with a smoke-like trail visible for four minutes, with no sound. Despite initial doubts, investigators concluded it was an astronomical phenomenon, likely a meteor. The flight pattern, explosion, and duration matched known bolide patterns, leading to the case being classified as meteorological.
