Bright UFO over the Gulf of Aden

Summary

An officer aboard the USS Mills reported a very bright object on November 28, 1961, over the Gulf of Aden. The UFO was observed for 20 minutes, following an erratic course of 140° and remaining at an extremely high altitude. Although no photos or radar data were recorded, the witness noted the object appeared to hesitate directly overhead. The official evaluation classified it as an "Echo I," attributing its behavior to atmospheric conditions and possible tumbling.

The report was distributed to multiple military commands and agencies, including the Secretary of the Navy and the CIA. Despite the attention, no clear explanation was reached, and the case was closed without further conclusions. This remains one of the many unresolved mysteries in UFO history.
