Summary

In November 1961, a classified report from Project 10073 recorded the observation of an unidentified flying object (UFO) in the Pacific Ocean near the coordinates 40N 173W. According to the report, the object was seen at an altitude of 25 degrees above the horizon, with an intensity similar to that of a second-magnitude star. For 10 minutes, it descended slowly until it disappeared below the horizon. Despite the detailed description, investigators concluded there was not enough information to evaluate its nature, as the object's description was too incomplete. This case is an example of how, even with military testimony, many UFO sightings remain unexplained.

The report does not include photographs or radar data, further limiting the possibility of analysis. Although several hypotheses were considered, such as balloons, aircraft, or astronomical phenomena, none were confirmed. The case was filed as "insufficient for conclusive evaluation," a common category for many UFO reports from that era. Despite the lack of answers, this type of historical record remains valuable for researchers studying the history of unexplained sightings.
