In December 1961, a witness in Chicago observed a bright orange and yellow object that appeared as luminous as half the moon. Around this main object, between five and six smaller objects were reported. During the 35-minute observation, the phenomenon showed changes in brightness, alternating between dimmer and brighter. The sighting location was a vacant lot near a street corner in the city. Although initially considered an unknown object, investigators concluded it was likely a combination of astronomical bodies, specifically the moon and the star Regulus. Atmospheric refraction and the setting of Regulus at that time of day could have contributed to the witness's confusion.
