Summary

In January 1962, a ground observer reported an object with an orbital trajectory, at a very high altitude and an unpredictable direction. The report, under Project 10073, mentions that the object could be a visible satellite. Although no photos were taken, the sighting was recorded as "possible satellite". The report did not rule out other explanations, but noted that the object did not appear to be a balloon or aircraft.

The location of the sighting, near coordinates 31-31N 171-52E, coincides with the orbit of the Echo satellite, which was in mission at the time. The Air Force message indicates that the observed object could be another visible satellite, suggesting the sighting was not unusual for the era. Despite the lack of precise data on speed and shape, the report concludes there is insufficient information for a definitive evaluation.
