🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1962, a civilian in Monroe, Louisiana, reported seeing several unusual luminous objects in the sky. He described three or more round objects, the size of a half-dollar, white with occasional reddish hues in the center. These objects, arrow-shaped and emitting streams of light, appeared to wobble like a spinning top as they moved. The witness observed them with the naked eye and reported their erratic motion. The Air Force investigated and concluded that the sighting was likely caused by astronomical phenomena, specifically atmospheric refraction of bright stars like Beta Centaurus and Beta Crux. While weather balloons were also considered, the most accepted explanation pointed to natural optical effects in the atmosphere.
