🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1962, a woman in Vandalia, Ohio, observed an object leaving a luminous trail in the sky. After opening her curtains, she saw a descending arc that changed color from bright orange to gray. The object, described as a wingless transport, moved at a speed similar to a landing aircraft. The Air Force concluded it was likely a jet from WPAFB whose contrail was illuminated by the sun, which had not yet risen.
The sighting lasted about five minutes and, although initially mysterious, investigators suggested the witness's imagination added details to a common scene. The upper bright trail and lower dark smoke were explained as engine exhaust and sunlight effects. Despite this, the account reflects how aerial phenomena can cause confusion and fascination.
