In January 1962, multiple sightings of an unidentified object were reported between South Carolina and Puerto Rico. A military pilot described an object resembling a comet with a tail that looked like an ice cloud. Meanwhile, in Puerto Rico, a group of 12 people at a submarine base observed a formation of "L"-shaped lights encircled by a luminous cloud. Other reports mentioned a bright object moving rapidly eastward and another leaving a luminous trail. Despite numerous observations, the object was not identified as a balloon, aircraft, or astronomical phenomenon.
