🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1962, a U.S. Navy officer reported observing an object that appeared to be a satellite from the USS Lancing. The incident occurred near the coordinates 29-10N 163-20W, and the object was described as bright as a first-magnitude star. Although initially considered the possibility of a balloon or aircraft, the data matched the orbit of the satellite Echo I, leading to the case being classified as such. The report includes details such as calm seas and scattered clouds, suggesting ideal observation conditions.
The document, part of the Air Force's Project 10073, shows how UFO sightings were analyzed at that time. Despite incomplete information, researchers concluded the object was not an unknown phenomenon but a known satellite. This type of record helps understand how UFO reports were handled during the Cold War, with a technical and military focus. The case did not generate controversy and was quickly resolved.
