In 1962, New York witnessed several unidentified flying object sightings. One of the most intriguing occurred on March 10, when a civilian reported seeing three objects in formation that changed positions. These objects, estimated at 50 feet in length, were flying at an altitude of 100,000 feet and a speed of 600 mph. Despite the difficulty of spotting such small objects at that height, the witness insisted there were no contradictions with a conventional observation. Investigators concluded it could be a misinterpretation of jet aircraft.
Another case was recorded on March 22, when an 11-year-old boy observed a thick trail of smoke in the sky over the Bronx. Following the trail, he saw an object with lights at each end, moving at the speed of sound. Although initially considered a high-flying aircraft with contrail, the lack of precise information and the witness's age led investigators to consider it a misidentification. The Air Force concluded there was no connection between the sighting and the appearance of fire engines five hours later, ruling out any aircraft crash.
