🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In March 1962, military personnel aboard a ship in the Pacific, northeast of the Hawaiian Islands, observed a luminous object that appeared as a blue ball with a trail. The object was moving west to east, covering about 20 degrees of arc in just two seconds. Despite its unusual almost horizontal trajectory and bright flame, the observers concluded it was an astronomical phenomenon, likely a meteor. The object's proximity explained its intense brightness, distinguishing it from more typical meteor sightings.
The description and behavior of the object surprised the witnesses, who noted the lack of sound and the unusual trajectory. Although other possibilities such as balloons or aircraft were initially considered, the final evaluation pointed to a meteor. This case, carefully documented, reflects how natural phenomena can appear mysterious if their characteristics are not well understood.
