🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A 15-year-old observer in Wurtland, Kentucky, reported an object in the constellation Virgo that shone brightly and fluctuated between magnitudes -2.5 and 6. Seen through a 117-power telescope, the object had a tail pointing toward the sun, an unusual trait for a comet. Despite the presence of "smoke" around it and changing brightness, the report classifies it as an astronomical phenomenon. The object remained stationary for six minutes before fading away.
The official report does not identify the object but suggests it could be a natural phenomenon. The observer, a teenager with no formal astronomy training, noted unusual features like the tail and variable brightness. Although other aerial objects were ruled out, the lack of photos and precise data prevents a definitive conclusion.
