In April 1962, a woman from Mayer, Arizona, sent pieces of tin foil she had collected from the sky to the FBI. These pieces, known as chaff, are metallic strips used by aircraft to confuse radar systems. The woman had noticed these strips for several years, prompting her to investigate their origin.
