🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A citizen from Maplewood, New Jersey, reported in April 1962 having seen a silver blinking light in the northwest sky. The witness, intrigued by the sighting, asked if it could have been an aircraft with a flashing light. Although no photos or radar data were recorded, the report classified the observation as "insufficient for evaluation". It notes that it could have been an aircraft, a balloon, or even an astronomical phenomenon. The lack of precise data such as duration and movement of the object made any definitive conclusion difficult.
The official response from the Department of Defense was brief and evasive, not resolving the witness's doubts. This case, like many others from the era, reflects the ambiguity with which unidentified sightings were treated in the 1960s. Despite the apparent simplicity of the report, the citizen's request and the official response show how public curiosity about UFOs was already a recurring topic at the time.
