🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1962, a navigator reported an object that appeared as a white star or planet, moving from west to east at an elevation of 40 degrees. The object was observed for 10 minutes without optical aid and disappeared behind clouds. The sighting occurred near Midway at 27.09N 176.34E. The observers, considered completely reliable, could not identify the object with certainty.
Military authorities concluded the object could be the Echo satellite, which was orbiting Earth at the time. Although other explanations like balloons or aircraft were dismissed, no definitive conclusion was reached. The report, part of a classified project, reflects the uncertainty surrounding many unidentified flying object sightings in the 1960s.
