Summary

In April 1962, a witness in Indian House Lake, Canada, reported a glowing object resembling a red ball with a white top. Seen through a theodolite, the object slowly descended for 20 minutes before disappearing behind a ridge. The observer, a civilian weather officer, described it as two to four times the size of visible stars. Despite its unusual appearance, investigators concluded it was likely the star Betelgeux, whose setting time coincided with the object. However, there was some uncertainty about whether the initial elevation was overstated.

The area had strong winds and clear visibility, supporting the possibility of an astronomical observation. Although other explanations like balloons or aircraft were dismissed, no photos were taken and there were no confirmed additional witnesses. The report was sent to military authorities and archived under Project 10073, where it was classified as a probable observation of Betelgeux, but with insufficient data for a definitive evaluation.
