🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1962, a witness in Coloma, Michigan reported seeing a bright object moving silently across the sky. The classified report suggests it could have been a balloon, an aircraft, or an astronomical phenomenon, but no definitive conclusion was reached. The object was described as brighter than stars and moving at high speed, which caused inconsistencies in the reported details. The sighting lasted between 1 and 2 minutes, and the witness estimated its speed at around 240 mph, comparing it to a meteor. Despite the discrepancies in the description, the case was included in Project 10073, a U.S. Air Force initiative to investigate unidentified aerial phenomena.
The Air Force technical report includes detailed questions about the observation, such as the object's direction, appearance, and duration. The witness could not precisely determine if the object was artificial, natural, or unknown. Although several explanations were considered, from balloons to aircraft, the report concluded that the data was insufficient for a definitive evaluation. This case exemplifies how UFO reports were documented during the Cold War, with a focus on data collection for later analysis.
